Webcam Setup
Hardware Setup/Location
The hardware setup of the camera is composed of two (2) components - the USB webcam itself, and a 20m long USB extension cable.

The camera itself (see above) is a Microsoft LifeCam Studio webcam, which was introduced to the market by Microsoft on September 13rd 2010. It features a true 1080p sensor and supports HD video in a 16:9 wide-screen format. Integrated audio/microphone is also included in the camera, but I have disabled this audio as part of the installation on the roof

The camera is mounted underneath our roof solar panels (for weather protection) and faces SSW (approx 190 degrees Magnetic) to prevent solar glare on the lens
from direct exposure to the sun. In addition to this, a small perspex panel is mounted in front of the camera to prevent (as much as possible) any rain-water
coming into contact with the camera. In time, this will be replaced with a more "robust" shelter to further protect the camera from the elements.
